Ah, the good old times! It was acceptable to admit that you missed a call or were not near a telephone. Today, your friends can tell that you’ve read your text messages when you’re online, and it’s nearly impossible to “miss” a call without offending them. This brings us to the question what do you miss about life before the digital age?
It’s safe for us to say that the internet has transformed our lives in a positive way. Today, we have access to not just information but also essentials like food and other necessities. However, everybody knows that there is a dark side lurking online that ranges from sexual predators to illicit services. Sometimes, we even have to wonder whether the internet is actually harmful.
Digital technology has transformed everything. We’re all hooked to our phones and computers and many of our lifestyles and priorities have changed. Let’s examine some of these digital age shifts.
If there’s anything that reminds you of the time before video chats and emails the feeling of receiving an unwritten note from the post office! Here are a few nostalgic things that we all miss from before the digital age!
Life Before Digital Age!
Do you love this life, when your morning starts with checking your phone and ends with the same? Or do you also miss the good old days when conversations were for real?
1. The Surprise Photos on Rolls of Film
Many were quick to talk about an old roll of film that was an unlabeled and untampered film that had not been made.
“Remember that when you finally came up with these, you’d discover one day and a half of holiday photos from a year and a half ago or something similar to that?”
2. Going to the Library to Do Research
The library for research subjects is definitely something that’s been a part of the past. However, it doesn’t mean that it’s not thought of as a thing to be missed.
A big stack of books on an office table, writing notes, making copies … Ahh!! It was an unforgettable experience!
3. Writing and Receiving Letters
When did you last handed in an unwritten note?
Many people have said that writing letters and getting letters, accumulating special stationery to send to family members, and receiving cards via snail mail for occasions, often with photos of loved ones is what they’re missing the most.
4. Less Emphasis on Appearance
We all grew and became uncomfortable. We knew that, but we knew that there was nothing we could do to change it. I miss awkward kids!!
5. Instant-Win Bottle Cap Contests
The instant-win candy bar, bottle caps and bottle cap wrappers that you could take into the shop and receive a new one for free are a great nostalgic moment from the past!
6. Reading a Physical Newspaper
According to a Reddit user, The experience of reading newspapers is no longer the same with access to minute-by-minute information.
The way you read the newspaper back in the day was as a guided tour through the news, starting with the most important stories of the day, followed by the major national and international stories, local and regional stories sports, and then comics and the arts.
7. Saturday Morning Cartoons
Even though Saturday morning cartoons can easily be recreated on Netflix however there was something very special about turning on the television prior to the time the household woke and watching whatever that was being shown.
8. Innocence
A lot of people also dreamed of innocence as a child — and that the ease with which even kids have access to the most frightening of media (or very serious content) is an utterly different experience from the early 2000s and 1990s.
9. Random Visits From Friends
Even though it’s today likely to be considered to be strange or unacceptable in society Many people have reported that they missed people stopping by your home.
You’re in the corner drinking a beer and scratching at your abs, and suddenly, you’ll see someone waiting at the door!!
10. Playing Board Games With Friends
Board games on the other hand were more enjoyable. The strange premises were fun as was the fact that everyone appeared to have the patience and desire to play.
“Now, even if you get a group of people that like board games in a room to play, people lose interest or are on their phones.”
11. There was a lot less FOMO (fear of missing out).
“Nowadays you can see your friends out and about having amusement – all visible to the world and you’re thinking I would like to be having fun, and you’re left with that feeling of emptiness inside you. When in the past you’d be satisfied with yourself, regardless of the location of the party or not.
12. The way we used to discover new music
“Discovering the latest music. Discovering a great album. The record stores. It’s not a bad thing I love Google Play, but there was something that was fun with the old method. I feel like the whole concept of the album is a little lost.
Wrapping Up:
Everybody’s eyes are on their phones these times. Post-internet, everyone is busy taking in information, not watching each other. Look around the next time you’re on the subway or eating in a restaurant. Nearly everyone is using their cell phone.
Hasn’t life changed so damn much? Haven’t we all changed literally? The digital age has so much influence on our lives that we can’t get over it even if we try to!
